Dear Sir/Madam
I am writing to you to enquire about the possibility of working at your venue for 2 weeks unpaid for work experience. I am currently studying Lighting and Sound design at Northbrook college Durrington-on-sea. I am in my second year of my foundation course and am required to perform a minimum of 2 weeks work experience in the industry as a part of my course. I believe your venue would be a perfect choice for work experience for myself. I am a hard worker, very dedicated, i have a wealth of knowledge in theatre technology, I am not afraid to ask for help if I'm am unsure and finally i have a huge passion for anything theatre based. it would be both and honour and a privilege if you would consider taking me on for work experience at your venue.

above is a generic cover letter i have written
I would adjust this letter to fit any venue (hence why it is a touch vague) and possibly add some specifics such as being inspired by shows the venue may have recently produced act
for my work experience this was not necessary as through contacts i had already made in the industry i was able to negotiate a work placement at the De La Warr Pavilion Bexhill in person
